ALAW, Dead Man’s Dance (Dawns y Gŵr Marw): teaser in English for Folkcorner Den Appel

ALAW, Dead Man’s Dance (Dawns y Gŵr Marw)

If you were there at Brosella Folk 2018, then you can surely  testify: even among the surprisingly strong acts on the festival this trio from Wales excelled: together Dylan Fowler (guitar, piano, mandocello, lap steel…), Jamie Smith (vocals, accordion) en Oliver Wilson-Dickson (vocals, violin) form Alaw, as a band still young, but the members have a substantial mileage in folk music (sometimes teaming up as with Jamie Smith’s Mabon) We know Fowler as the guitar player of no less than Julie Murphy and as the leading force behind Fernhill. Welsh tradition is the beating heart of Alaw, played or refurbished with an infectious passion. The three self-written pieces (in English) by Oliver blend perfectly with the traditional. Brilliant example is the reworking in Welsh of the sea shanty ‘Santiana’ of John Glyn Davies (1870-1953)

Antoine Légat.
